Why Fridge has vertical door?

A very good question. As usual, good question leads to good result. Tome Chalko at Mt. Best Australia has converted a
Vestfrost freezer turned into a fridge) consumes about 0.1 kWh a day. It works only about 2 minutes per hour. At all other times it is perfectly quiet and consumes no power whatsoever.

If you would also operate your fridge on gas, in stead of electricity it would consume even less power. (Although electricity when generated from solar/wind is the better option).

It was in the early 20th century that GE decided to go with electric fridge, rather than the safer, more silent and less power costly gas operated fridges. Because that way they could earn $1.20 or so more per fridge each year (as GE was also in the business of generating electricity)
